Our Bodies Are Wild and Shimmering

Sol Gallery Fitzroy January 2026

The images in this exhibition play with this sense of spectral fluidity: the something, the everything, that cannot be pointed to, that is inescapably, strangely there. It explores these themes through the sceptre of the saint.

The monotone photogravure Queer Saints series, plays with the covering and uncovering of the saint’s body and the collision of the erotic and ecstatic in Christian iconography. Each print takes a particular saint and layers a coupling of images from art history, creating condensed narratives of desire. The layered images haunt one another ghosting both spirit and flesh.

The Our bodies are wild and shimmering series overprints colour pigment prints with dark field photogravure plates, taking images of St Sebastian and Christ and entwining them with plant and floral patterns. These wild bodies which grow into, with and through plants become particularly poignant forms in our current times when the indivisibility of body/earth and human/not human is ever more evident and ever more troubling……
